Research Description
Prof. Belding is the director of the Mobility Management and Networking (MOMENT) Lab. Currently, there are two primary research emphases of the Lab. The first of these is deployment, measurement, and modeling of ad hoc and wireless mesh networks. The MOMENT group has created a 30 node wireless mesh testbed at UCSB, called the UCSB MeshNet, for the purpose of rapid prototyping of solutions, monitoring of user behavior, and studying wireless network deployment issues. Also under this project and together with Prof. Kevin Almeroth, the MOMENT group has monitored the wireless network performance of the 60th, 61st, 62nd and 64th IETF meetings. We have collected over 100GB of data on traffic and user movement, and are currently analyzing the data and developing models that represent user behavior.
The second research emphasis of the MOMENT Lab is on Quality of Service support for mobile networks. We are striving to support both higher quality and more concurrent multimedia and voice streams in mobile and mesh networks. We have a number of projects related to this area, including projects at the MAC and network layers. We leverage the UCSB Meshnet testbed for the characterization and analysis of our solutions.

Biography
Elizabeth M. Belding is an Associate Professor in the Department
of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Elizabeth's research focuses on mobile networking, specifically ad hoc and mesh networks, multimedia, monitoring, and advanced service
support. She is the founder of the Mobility Management and Networking (MOMENT) Laboratory (http://moment.cs.ucsb.edu) at UCSB. Elizabeth is the author of over 50 papers related to mobile networking and has served on over 40 program committees for networking conferences. Elizabeth served as the TPC Co-Chair of ACM MobiCom 2005 and ACM MobiHoc 2007, and is currently on the editorial board for the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing. Elizabeth is the recipient of an NSF CAREER award, and a 2002 Technology Review 100 award, awarded to the world's top young investigators. See http://www.cs.ucsb.edu/~ebelding for further details.
